On the Road Again!

Aren't I Adorable?Mom is either incredibly brave or incredibly foolish (no comments from the peanut gallery), because I'm packing up the babies and taking my first solo trip with them (and Molly's first trip, period!). Max, Molly, and Mom are hitting the road and heading up North to visit Grandma and Grandpa. We're looking forward to the visit and I'm sure everyone will have a lot of fun. However, it should be interesting to see what happens when you put Max the Incredibly Light Sleeper, Molly the Demanding, and Mom the Sleepless in one room together for a couple of nights (not to mention trying to get Max down for naps!). Hopefully we'll be able to figure it out, everyone will get enough sleep to function, and Max won't morph into the Insanely Crabby Toddler Who Will Not Nap. Either that or I'll be breaking my "no coffee while nursing" rule and hitting a couple of Starbucks along the way. ;)

Cute as a Button IIOf course, as I attempt to get ready for the trip, I realize why it is that people try to avoid traveling with babies -- babies (and their parents) require insane amounts of gear to function at even a subsistence level. I just packed up the babies' suitcase, which is easily twice the size of my suitcase (containing a subset of their wardrobes which is definitely much cuter and more stylish than my own). Between bringing enough items to attempt to recreate Max's familiar sleeping accommodations (is it overkill to bring his musical crib toy?) and enough clothing to account for Molly's reflux (how many burp cloths is too many?), the babies' suitcase is already full to bursting, even though I thought I was packing light. I'm not sure how we'll survive without Molly's swing or Max's crib, but I sincerely doubt they'd fit into the SUV after we pack all the necessary diapers. Stay tuned for all the juicy post-trip tales!

Good luck! Our first solo trip (meaning a trip where we weren't going to a helpful relative's house, but still had two moms on board) was... well, I'll tell you about it when you return :) And if you decide that you absolutely need the swing, just pack a few diapers and buy some when you get to your desination!

Good luck!!! The sound of a road trip makes me shiver. I still haven't gotten over the 1400 mile trip to FL last Feb. Luckily the shorter trips of late have been much better!

Best wishes! My DH complains about trips to the grocery store! I can't even imagine a road trip!

Good luck on your trip! I have been checking out your beautiful babies via your pics and fun blogs since I met Max back in the NICU. (as one of the residents who had the pleasure of meeting and working w/the Even family!)

Anyway, my blog is actually an inquiry about your camera and technique. I enjoy photography as a hobby and was wondering what kind of camera you use and if you had any advice to an amateur! I have a 35 mm SLR (Canon EOS Rebel) and am hoping to go completely digital soon (was thinking of the Canon 30D so I can use my lens).

Anyway, as it can be an expensive hobby if you don't have the right info, thought I'd ask an expert :)

Thanks!

Dr. Patty! We always love to hear from you. :) You took such good care of Max and were one of his very favorite doctors.

I'm just a hobby photographer myself (and I need a lot of work), but I have a Nikon D70 digital SLR. I LOVE it -- I know digital SLRs are a little pricey, but I think they're so worth it. It is nice to have the freedom to experiment with different settings and not worry about wasting film -- if the picture stinks, you can just delete it. I'm a big Nikon fan, but a lot of people really like the Rebel.

I do have an external flash (Nikon Speedlight SB-600) -- I'd really recommend an external flash if you're doing photography that needs a flash. I only have two lenses at the moment (18-70mm and a 50mm), but I'm hoping to expand my collection. :) I can email you some info on books I've found that are helpful. So nice to hear from you!
