You Sing a Song and I'll Sing a Song

FunnyMax loves music. This didn't come as a huge surprise, since Dad and I love music too and often listen to it around the house. Every night before bed, after we read a story and turn out the light, Max and I sing our "song in the dark." I always sing to him and sometimes he sings to me too. For months he's been singing a particular song -- we never could recognize it and referred to it as Max's "bah di" song. He always sings the same sounds in the same way and usually claps while he sings. It took us a while, but we finally figured out that he's singing Miss Mary Mack.

When I was little, we had a few Ella Jenkins records that we listened to over and over again. We obviously loved them, because I still remember all the songs to this day. I sometimes sing them to Max and he must have been impressed with Miss Mary Mack. Of course, once we figured out what he was singing, I had to go order him a bunch of Ella Jenkins CDs. We've listened to them all numerous times and they are as much fun as I remember. If Max had his way, he'd listen to them all day -- when the CD ends he immediately starts saying, "ahgem, ahhhhGEM!" ("again, again").

Hear No EvilMaybe all of this music is fueling a brain growth spurt, because Max started doing all kind of fun (and not so fun) things in the last week or so. Just when I was starting to worry that Max wasn't putting two words together very often, he started saying all kinds of two-word sentences. Case in point - when I came home from work today, he greeted me with a hearty "hey, baby!" (he was copying Dad, but it cracked me up). Max has also learned to turn doorknobs and open doors (ugh), unsnap his pants, take off his sister's socks, open the refrigerator, and climb on everything. I was always kind of happy that he wasn't a big climber, but apparently that relief was short lived. He now will tell you what a baby says ("WAAAAAHHH!") and although I tried to steal Kim's cute "Who loves you? Mama!" trick, whenever I ask Max who loves him, he covers his ears with his hands. *sigh*

Two may be a crazy age, but it's also an awful lot of fun!

That cracks me up that he puts his hands over his ears and sighs when you ask him "who loves him"! Keep working on it, I say!
