Are We There Yet?

Passing Time III've discovered that there is only one thing worse than a mobile toddler -- an immobile toddler. Five cast days down and waaaay too many to go! Max is pretty miserable and frustrated and upset about his new couch potato status. Max seemed to enjoy watching "more dee dee!" (more Baby Einstein) for a couple of days, but even the novelty of being able to watch as many DVDs as he wants seems to have worn off. We've read all the books, played with all of the toys, and watched all the Baby Einsteins, and we haven't even made it through the first week yet!

Cast Boy IIWe've pretty much figured out different ways to move him around and different places for him to hang out. We have to change his position every few hours, to make sure he doesn't get pressure sores. Who knew that we'd be fighting the old tummy time battle again? ;) We brought his car seat inside and set that up next to a coffee table, so he can safely sit upright to eat his meals. He spends a lot of time on the beanbag and sometimes he just wiggles around on the floor with Molly. He had a rough weekend and he was feeling pretty glum this afternoon, so I took him for a spin around the neighborhood in his wheelchair. That seemed to cheer him up and he's already asking to go for more walks. Hopefully the weather will cooperate so I can take him out as much as possible.

Serene I Fold My Hands and Wait ...Thankfully, he's at least been sleeping and napping well (the same can't be said for Molly, the teething fiend, but more on that in another post ;). Max is also finally letting us know that he's a boy with definite preferences. Up until now, if he wanted to watch a DVD or read a book, any one would suffice. Not any more! We'll hold up one DVD after another as Max proclaims, "NooOOoo" -- we know we hit the right one when the "no" is replaced by "Peeese!" I was singing him his bedtime song tonight and when I started in on The Alphabet Song (which he usually really likes), I was interrupted with "NooOoo" and Max attempted to sing the song he wanted to hear. Thankfully, I speak fairly fluent toddler and realized that he wanted me to sing All the Pretty Little Horses instead. Apparently, now that we're at his beck and call, the little fellow is getting awfully bossy! ;)

I'm hoping we'll all adjust and things will get a little easier. After all, they can't really get any harder ... can they??
