Check Up

Squeaky Clean! (B&W)Molly had her 12-month well-baby checkup (a month and a half late -- we'll pretend we scheduled it for her adjusted age ;). She's as healthy as a horse and almost as big! She weighed in at 24 lbs, 10 ounces, was 31 1/2 inches tall, and her head circumference was 18 inches. On the growth charts that puts her at 87% for weight, 95% for height, and about 50% for head size. I think this is the first time ever that her height percentile beat out her weight percentile on the charts! She's doing everything that a 12 month old should be doing, as well as all the "might be doing already" items on the checklist. She got one shot this visit, but since I gave her my cell phone to play with while the nurse was giving her the shot, she only gave one outraged squawk and went right back to playing with the phone. Brave girl!

Clean (B&W)However, the source of her relative contentment might have been that she already "paid back" the nurse in full at the beginning of the visit. Molly is still little enough that they prefer to weigh her without her diaper. So, after they took her height and head measurements, I removed her (dry) diaper and plonked her on the scale. As soon as the weight registered, I picked her up, carried her back to the examining table, and held her there while I grabbed for her diaper. She decided to pick that exact moment to pee all over the table (mind you, her diaper had been off for all of 60 seconds total). This wasn't a petite little tinkle, either -- the girl peed like a racehorse! It was a pretty impressive display, although the nurse didn't seem to think so! This must be Molly's trademarked means of expressing her displeasure to medical professionals -- in addition to peeing all over the doctor seconds after she was born (when they wouldn't let me hold her), this is the second or third time she's peed during her weight checks.

As you might imagine, after a trip to the doctor's office and the exciting pee incident, a bath was mandatory! Molly was a little fussy and out of sorts after her shots, but the nice, warm bath seemed to make everything better (especially when you have such a nifty froggie towel to dry off with!). I was hoping the shots would zonk her out a bit and contribute to a better night's sleep ... but so far that doesn't seem to be the case!
