I'm ashamed to say that Max (and, of course, Molly) has never been out to play in the snow. He was too small his first winter (after all, who would want to crawl through snow?) and last winter I think we got all the "good" snow on week days, when I had to work. So, when the first big snowstorm of the season happened to fall on a weekend, I couldn't wait to bundle up the small fry and take them out to play in the snow!

Unfortunately, my attempt to acquire boots before the storm was entirely unsuccessful. Apparently every other parent in the area had the same idea and Target was TOTALLY cleaned out of kids' boots. So, we had to improvise with regular shoes and several pairs of socks (both kid socks and Mama socks). I had hats and mittens for everyone and Molly fit into Max's old (unused) snowsuit. Max wore his regular coat and an old pair of snow pants that Max's aunt or uncle used to wear. So, except for the whole "lack of proper footgear" issue, we were ready for some fun in the snow.

Max was so excited and couldn't wait to get outside. He happily plunged through the drifts and started playing in the snow. Molly was a little more hesitant -- she wasn't quite sure what to make of the white stuff, especially because it came up past her knees. The fact that I had bundled her up like the little brother in
A Christmas Story didn't help either. Like poor little Randy, when Molly fell down she couldn't get up by herself and had to yell, "Help, Mama, help!" until I came to her rescue. After a few minutes she did start to enjoy herself, especially when I gave her a horsey ride around the yard. But, after about 15 minutes of playing, Molly was ready to go back inside and hustled back inside to get warm with Dad.

Max, on the other hand, didn't want to come inside ("More So, more so!"). We tossed snow in the air, threw snowballs, and made snow angels. We ran around the yard and rolled in the snow and had an all-around good time. We went back in to get warmed up and have dinner, but Max was begging to go back outside and play. Hopefully the white stuff will stick around and we can play in it next weekend. I think there's a sled in the garage that Max and Molly would really enjoy!
