Big Boy Bed!

Big Boy Bed!While Max, Molly, and I were out of town, Dad made some major changes around the house. Max returned to find that his crib had been moved across the room and a "big boy bed" (i.e. twin mattress on the floor) had been set up where is crib had been. And, in preparation for Max on the Loose, the Boy-Eating Dresser had been refastened to the wall (several) times, to make certain that it wouldn't be going anywhere. Max was very excited by his new bed and we tucked him in there to take a MUCH-NEEDED nap when we got home from our trip. He fussed a bit, but was fast asleep in a few minutes. Not bad for the first time!

UsurperMolly seems to like the new bed as much (or maybe more) than Max does! She'll grab a book, climb into bed, pull up the covers, and lay back as comfy as you please! The only bad thing is that she doesn't want to get out and move to her own bed. She plays possum by pretending to sleep, although since she keeps her eyes open while she makes fake snoring noises, she isn't very convincing.

"I Wake Up!"But, in spite of the initial enthusiasm, Max hasn't done a whole lot of sleeping in his new bed. All week we've been letting him get used to the bed and giving him the choice of where he wanted to sleep. He's napped in the big bed a couple of times, but never wanted to sleep in it at night. So, it makes me happy to report that Max is upstairs sleeping in his big boy bed!! Tonight he decided to sleep in the big bed and he went right to sleep without a fuss. I peeked in on him and he looks so tiny curled up in that big bed! So far he's been really good about staying in bed and not getting up and goofing around, but I'm guessing that's because the whole concept is still too new. Now, if only we can have some breakthroughs in the potty department. ;)

Edited to Add: Oh, drat it all -- I jinxed myself. About 30 seconds after I hit the "Publish Post" button, Max woke up and started crying (I think he was half asleep, not sure where he was, and scared). I went upstairs to comfort him and he's now back in his "little bed."

Oh well, baby steps, right? Maybe some spiffy new sheets will help seal the deal ...
